Here is a simple way to send somebody an app as a gift. It’s all right on the app store and only takes a few seconds. To start, choose the app you want to give. For this demo I randomly chose a WordPress video app…

On the right upper corner you’ll see a link that says, “gift this app”. Click it and a pop up screen comes up…

Here you can review the app, cost, ratings, etc. Click next for the next screen…

Here you fill out the recipient email, who it’s from, and add a message. Click next…

Here you can review everything and confirm the price. Click “Buy App” to complete the process, pay for it, and the app is emailed to your recipient. Very easy.

This process has another ability. Say you have employees with iPads or a class of students. You can add multiple emails and send the app out to everyone who you want to have it. For example: say you had a new accounting app you need everyone on your staff to have, or a particular app that you will be using in a lesson plans that all your students will need. You can send it to everyone so they will have it.

As far as I can tell, this feature is only in the app store. I couldn’t find it in the iBook store, only a “tell a friend” link. Perhaps it will be a new feature there in the future.

Bottom line, now if you find a particular app you think somebody will like, you have the ability to give it to them as a gift and throw a nice little guilt trip on them for not thinking of doing the same for you.
